The Great Sidecar Expedition

On 1 May 2011 twenty riders will set out from Bila Tserkva in the Ukraine to travel through Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan on restored Ukrainian Dnpr MB650 motorbikes and sidecars. The bikes are 1940's era twin cylinder BMW style machines and have been faithfully restored over the last year to original condition complete with ammunition boxes and jerricans on the sidecars.

There will be only one rider per machine as the space in the sidecar will be used to carry a large number of spares, tent, sleeping bag and other personal stores. Accommodation during the trip will be a mixture of budget hotels and camping. Main roads will be avoided and the group will not be travelling as a convoy. Individuals are free to travel at their own speed.

The ride will finish at the Red Sea port of Aqaba where the bikes will be loaded into a shipping container and transported to Australia. Should the security situation in the Middle East deteriorate, an alternative route from Turkey through the Balkans to Italy will be followed with the bikes being shipped from Genoa.
